Chess Arrow collects as little as it can. This page explains what the app and chessarrow.com collect, why, and how long it is kept.

The app

• Chess Arrow runs on your computer. It reads the board from your screen and analyses it with the Stockfish engine on your computer. Screenshots, games and moves never leave it.
• The app contacts our server only when you start the free trial, activate a license or move a license to another computer. It then sends a machine code and, when you activate, your license key.
• The machine code, such as 7K2Q-M4ZB-XW3A-Q9PL, is a one-way fingerprint of your Windows installation. It does not contain your name, your user name or hardware serial numbers, and it cannot be turned back into them.
• The log files the app writes for troubleshooting stay on your computer. We only see them if you attach them to an email.

The website

• No cookies, no analytics and no advertising trackers. Fonts and scripts are served from chessarrow.com itself.
• Your IP address is used to limit abuse, such as too many downloads or activation attempts in a short time. These counters are deleted within two days.
• Our hosting provider may keep short-term technical logs of requests to keep the service running and secure.

Buying

• Payments are handled by Creem, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Your card details go to Creem and its payment processors; we never see them. Creem's own privacy policy covers the data it collects.
• From Creem we receive your email address, your order and customer numbers, the product, the amount and currency, and your license key.

What we keep on our server

• Orders: email address, order and customer numbers, amount and status.
• Licenses: a one-way hash of the key, its last few characters, and the machine code of the computer it is active on. The full key is not stored.
• Trials: the machine code and when its trial started and ends, so each computer gets one trial.
• Download counts, without any personal data.

Who processes data for us

• Creem: payments, taxes, receipts and license keys.
• Railway: hosting, database and file storage for the website.
• Google (Gmail): the emails you send us.

How long we keep it

Order and license records are kept while your license exists and for as long as accounting law requires. Trial records are kept so the one-trial-per-computer rule keeps working. Emails are kept as long as we need them to help you.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it: email chessarrowapp@gmail.com. We may keep what the law requires, such as order records, and what an active license needs to keep working.

When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
